At 3:00 pm on Canada Day, Willow Cakes and the Friends of Fort George will commence the famous cake parade along Queen Street. The huge cake is transported from Queen and Simcoe Street and heads east to Simcoe Park accompanied by the Fife and Drum corps from Fort
George. Once it reaches the park at King Street it is divided up and given free to the crowds celebrating Canada Day in the park. This is a long standing NOTL tradition and very popular among residents.

Fort George is open from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm on July 1st, and it’s free all day! Throughout the day, visitors to Fort George can tour the buildings, visit with costumed interpreters, enjoy a musket demonstration, and more!

There will be cold drinks and treats available from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm inside Fort George. Food services will be starting at 4:00 pm. Evening entertainment starts at 6:30 pm with the kiddie militia and drill, followed by a presentation by the Fort George Infantry, and Fife and Drum Corps. Funds raised by the sale of food by the Friends of Fort George will help to support summer student employment opportunities at Fort George and Brock’s Monument. Back by popular demand will be “The Howling Horns”, an 8-piece horn band featuring music from blues to dance to classic rock that will take the stage at 7:30 pm. At 10 pm, a spectacular

fireworks display will once again close the evening, by the award-winning fireworks company, Garden City Fireworks. The day and evening events are all free for the public with generous donations and support from the Department of Canadian Heritage, The Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake, The Niagara Falls Bridge Commission, Parks Canada, local businesses, and individual supporters.
