Candlelight Stroll

The Niagara-on-the-Lake Chamber of Commerce is delighted to uphold this cherished and heartwarming tradition, marking the beginning of the holiday season in the picturesque town of Niagara-on-the-Lake!

For the upcoming 2023 Candlelight Stroll, taking place on December 1st, we are thrilled to announce that we will be hosting a captivating afternoon showcase. Join us for an enchanting display of talent, featuring multiple musical performances, from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm, right in front of the historic Old Court House Building on Queen Street, nestled within our charming Heritage District.

Showcase Schedule

2:00 pm to 2:30 pm: Niagara Pumphouse Art Centre

The Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre is infusing the countdown towards the candlelight stroll with a touch of holiday magic and creative spirit. A live painting demonstration, featuring the 'Nutcracker,' an iconic holiday symbol that stands guard over the historic Court House, comes to life with each brushstroke. Visitors are encouraged to engage with the artist, providing them with an opportunity to discover the diverse offerings of the art hub of the community, both during this  festive season and throughout the year.

2:45 pm to 3:15 pm: Shaw Festival Performers

A troupe of skilled performers unites to present beloved holiday classics, carols, and musical melodies, aiming to enchant and kindle the festive spirit. 

3:45 pm to 4:45 pm: Niagara Star Singers & Queenston Women's Chorus

Joining together to create a Holiday splendor the Queenston Women's Chorus & Niagara Star Singers will perform & sing classic Holiday songs.

5:00 pm to 5:30 pm: Yellow Door Theatre

Young talents unite to display their passion and skill in the performing arts, infusing the streets of Niagara-on-the-Lake with the heartwarming spirit of the holiday season.

6:00 pm to 6:30 pm: Salvation Army Band

6:30 pm to 7:00 pm: Kind holiday words from special guests and introduction of recipient

7:00 pm: Stroll starts, see link to map below

Santa Claus will be joining in on the festivities and will be available for pictures from 3:00pm to 5:00pm in front of the Old Court House Building in our Heritage District.

We will have strollers in period clothing walking Queen Street to take pictures with and help answer any questions about our event and direct you where to purchase candles.

The Candlelight Stroll begins at 6:30pm on Friday, December 1st, 2023, in front of the Old Court House on Queen Street.

Please read below for further details:

1. Candles will be sold from 2:00pm to 8:00pm or until candles sell out.

Candles are $5 each - cash only!

2. There will be an opening ceremony outside the Old Court House at 6:30pm. Town Crier will introduce the recipients of the candle funds, the Lord Mayor and our Chamber President and Santa Claus!

3. The lead recipient will commence the candle lighting ceremony and lead the stroll in a horse drawn carriage. Carriages are donated by Sentineal Carriages.

4. Participants walk along the stroll route behind the carriage. Enjoy musical Christmas performances from local artists who are generously donating their time and talent to this event.

5. Dress appropriately for the weather!

Candlelight Stroll Recipients

We are thrilled to shine a spotlight on two extraordinary youths in our community,

Dylan Dietsch and Maya Webster

 who are not only facing health challenges with incredible courage but are also making a significant impact through their dedicated fundraising efforts.

Dylan Dietsch, despite living with cerebral palsy, has consistently risen to the occasion to support those facing similar health concerns. His unwavering spirit and commitment to helping others have made him a source of inspiration in our community.

Maya Webster, a remarkable young individual with Type 1 diabetes, has demonstrated incredible resilience and compassion. Maya's fundraising initiatives not only raise awareness about Type 1 diabetes but also provide support for those affected by this health condition.

Both Dylan and Maya have embarked on their own fundraising journeys, channeling their personal challenges into positive action for the greater good. Their initiatives not only contribute to the well-being of individuals with similar health concerns but also foster a sense of community support and understanding.

We invite you to join to join us at the Candlelight Stroll to acknowledging and celebrating the commendable efforts of Dylan Dietsch and Maya Webster. Their determination to make a difference exemplifies the true spirit of community and resilience in the face of adversity.

Parking and Complimentary Shuttle

Parking is available at Fort George which is easily accessible from the Niagara Parkway at 51 Queens Parade. Community Transportation will be offering complimentary shuttle service from 4:30 pm to 9:30pm from the Fort to the Court House and a return trip. Candles can be purchased from the Fort George.
